Some things that are a-brewin’ for ADHD.
Baby things so cute it makes your teeth ache.
Oh yes, it’s blue, it’s fuzzy AND it’s meant to be put on a tiny little baby.
Brand new techniques. Interesting bag shapes. COLORS! Oh my!
Do you call it Trinity stitch? Bramble stitch? or maybe Blueberry stitch? How about we make it something wearable that’s not a hat or scarf?
Some other things on the slab for production: shrunken heads, cactus flowers, wedding cakes, pillows, so many felted things your head will spin, take a stab at just about anything and chances are we’re knitting it up to bring you a pattern for it.
Just wait and see. ADHD Knitting launches December 2007. We’ve got more than just that in store.

We’re also looking for other knitters to contribute their brief clips (15-30 seconds) of them knitting. We’re focusing mainly on hands, though you can do you full body shot should you feel so inclined. Please share this video with your friends who knit, and ask them to send in their clips.
You can also visit ADHD Knitting on YouTube! we’ll be putting up short videos and tutorials, but right now it’s just fun stuff. But you should still totally come, view, and then post something to say hi to let us know you’re watching. If we get a decent response, you’ll be the joyful recipients of MORE madness from the ADHD crew.
There was also this today:
The stinky, sneezy hairless cat in a little sweater I knit him. He’s about the creepiest sweetest thing on the planet. Welcome to the world of ADHD Knitting!
Fingerless mittens. They have a purpose, promise. The idea of these was brought up at the last Knit Night because all of us wimpy desert folk where bitching about it being cold on the patio where we have our meetings. The thought was brought up that fingerless mittens might be a good idea for knitting at night in the chill of the desert winter. So….there you be. Fingerless mittens. There was a prototype before settling on this one. They were ugly and bulky. These are better.
One down, one to go. This one only took me about four hours. I should have the other one done by the end of my shows tonight. (Desperate Housewives and Dexter)
In other news: I got my hair cut yesterday. It’s cute. Nothing new, just back to the A-line bob and trimmed up the bangs again. But it’s nice to have shape to my hair again. Also: dentist appointment tomorrow morning. The wisdom tooth in the back of my mouth is starting to ache and this time I’m being proactive instead of waiting until I can’t chew.
That’s it for Dani news. Off to make the other mitten.
I went in search of an easy fair isle project last night. I wanted to get my feet wet with the concept of fair isle without jumping into something too complex right away since I’d never tried it before. I was looking for something to knit flat, but I figured if I was going to do it I might as well make something useful, so I found the Beginners Fair Isle Baby hat pattern over at Freddy Knits and it just screamed “Make me for Baby Ikner!” So I did.
I used Berocco Peruvia scraps I had left over from my curbing bag. It’s a deep teal and natural heather colors.
There’s a close up of the pattern. Nothing too fancy but I’m pretty pleased with it. I’ve never done a hat knitted either, I’ve only ever done crocheted hats. So this was two firsts for me. This took me about three hours to finish, I started it right as Desperate Housewives was beginning and finished it just after Dexter was over at midnight.
Now I’m off to Gails!
I finally just got sick and tired of knitting on it so it turned into a cropped cardigan. It’s…okay, but I am by no means in love with it. It’s also really not my style, but Mike says it looks nice on me so I’m going to try to get some wear out of it. It fits, and it’s finished and it’s the first people sized thing I’ve finished that fits me. So it’s a small victory. I’ve also learned a ton about knitting since starting this so I think part of the reason I’m not stoked by it is because I can see a lot of ways I could have made it better. There are also some mistakes in it.
Well, anyway, here it is:
Forgive my face, it was bright outside and I wasn’t particularly concerned with how my faced looked as I was more interested in photographing the cardigan.
Two small buttons on the bottom to hold the thing closed. 4×4 ribbing around the bottom, seed stitch around the collar and button band.
There’s a little lacy looking bit in the back where I had to increase stitches so it’d fit over my boobs (which is still doesn’t) and I didn’t know how to increase without yarning over, now I do. So next time, under the arms and using k1fb instead of in the middle of the back and yarning over. Gack.
But the damn thing is OFF the needles now, so I can move on to something I might wear for the next one.
So, I finally broke down and went and bought a swift. I was tired of having to wrangle Mike to get him to stand next to the yarn baller with the hank of yarn stretched between his arms. It was time consuming and annoying. So! I dropped the $60 on a good wood swift.
And promptly went to work balling all the hanks I’ve had that I’ve put off balling. It’s a really nice swift. All wood, no weird parts to catch on the yarn (metal springs, etc.) and adjusts to fairly big.
The cat was perplexed by the new addition to the craft room.
So she had to check it out and make sure it wasn’t something dangerous. We’ve also determined that she prefers merino wool to other kinds of wool. And would rather have any kind of wool over cotton, alpaca or angora. Her favorite is a soft DK weight merino wool I got in San Diego earlier this year, it was almost going to be a hat but the cat took it over and it’s now her favorite thing to rub on her face.
Just for kicks, I took a picture of the whole craft room as well, so ya’ll can see how….chaotic it is.
Off to finish up the two patterns I’m writing! Almost done.
Well, I got sick of waiting to find out if it’s a boy or a girl and I’ve been going nuts not being able to start knitting for my (fake) niece or nephew. I looked at no less than 50 patterns over the last three days and finally decided that I didn’t like any of them and designed my own. So here it is the Ikner Sweater (pattern forthcoming, and yes that’s the official name of the pattern!)
Front of sweater, it’s a button up cardigan to save the poor baby face from being yanked on to get the sweater over it’s head.
Back of sweater, you will notice in this picture about two inches of 2×2 ribbing around the bottom, this allows for the sweater to fit over a full baby belly and then to shrink back down when the baby belly is normal again. This way the sweater doesn’t smoosh a full belly.
The sleeves are ribbed almost the whole way down so that it can expand as the baby gets bigger. The sleeves are long so they can be kept down to keep little fingernails from scratching themselves or rolled up so the hands are free. Also, this should bean the sweater will fit longer as the baby grows.
This is newborn size, so it’ll probably fit for about thirty seconds before the kiddo grows out of it, BUT I’ll make another one bigger when needed! I like this pattern so I’m going to write it up for a couple of different sizes (which means I’ll be test knitting it in different sizes, so Baby Ikner might get a whole wardrobe after all!) and putting up here in a few days. Hopefully. I have a lot of work stuff to do and that obviously takes precedent over writing my won pattern, I really need to get the company patterns done.
More baby stuff to come for sure though!
