Finally! Something for Baby Ikner!
Well, I got sick of waiting to find out if it’s a boy or a girl and I’ve been going nuts not being able to start knitting for my (fake) niece or nephew. I looked at no less than 50 patterns over the last three days and finally decided that I didn’t like any of them and designed my own. So here it is the Ikner Sweater (pattern forthcoming, and yes that’s the official name of the pattern!)
Front of sweater, it’s a button up cardigan to save the poor baby face from being yanked on to get the sweater over it’s head.
Back of sweater, you will notice in this picture about two inches of 2×2 ribbing around the bottom, this allows for the sweater to fit over a full baby belly and then to shrink back down when the baby belly is normal again. This way the sweater doesn’t smoosh a full belly.
The sleeves are ribbed almost the whole way down so that it can expand as the baby gets bigger. The sleeves are long so they can be kept down to keep little fingernails from scratching themselves or rolled up so the hands are free. Also, this should bean the sweater will fit longer as the baby grows.
This is newborn size, so it’ll probably fit for about thirty seconds before the kiddo grows out of it, BUT I’ll make another one bigger when needed! I like this pattern so I’m going to write it up for a couple of different sizes (which means I’ll be test knitting it in different sizes, so Baby Ikner might get a whole wardrobe after all!) and putting up here in a few days. Hopefully. I have a lot of work stuff to do and that obviously takes precedent over writing my won pattern, I really need to get the company patterns done.
More baby stuff to come for sure though!
