Contest extension/re-working

Filed in blog posts

No one, not a single person, has entered the Robert Smith Look Alike contest. So, I’m counting it as a bust and I’ll be doing a contest anyways. Same prizes, new details.

Announcing the “No One Wants to Look Like Robert Smith” Contest! (Except me and I didn’t have time to get all dolled up like Robert, it takes a long time to tease my  hair like that.)

Details:

Comment on this blog entry about who your favorite rock star is and why. Give as much detail as possible, including pictures if you can in case I don’t know who you’re talking about. Keep in mind I’m asking for rock stars only, no offense to country, hip hop, gospel, etc. but I’m looking for rock n’ rollers this time around. The time will come for those other categories. Extra credit points if you DO dress up like the rock star and share a photo of yourself looking like them, I will add a super secret SUPER SPECIAL prize for anyone who does this. (Some of my handspun perhaps? Or a braid of my hand dyed roving?)

Contest closes April 8th 2009 sometime in the evening-ish. That’s about a week from today. Winner(s) will be picked on how well they go into detail, how much supporting material they provide (pictures, videos, mp3 files, etc.) and how clever they are.

The Rock Your Socks Off club yarn for April has been dyed and is currently drying in the excellent Vegas sun on my back patio. The suggested listening playlist has been complied (I’m listening to it right now, as a matter of fact) and the goodies have been divvied up and are ready to go. Packages should ship by the end of the week!

I also need your help guys. I spun up these great batts from Foxyie last night and I just left it unplied because I wanted to knit something lacy with it. I don’t know what to knit though, so I need pattern ideas for about 300 yards of lace/fingering weight(ish, it is handspun) slightly sparkly purple, gold and maroon wool.

I really love this. I’m not selling it, I want to make something for myself out of it. I haven’t made myself anything out of my handspun since I did that mug cozy out of very over spun yarn when I first started spinning. So, what do you think? A cowl? Scarf? Hat? Give me some ideas! Specific patterns are better than just concepts, I’m so frazzled with school and work that I don’t have the time to design something.

Sorry! I was gonna dress up my teen as Robert Smith, but then we cut his hair on Saturday — mohawk. Realized afterward that we should have done the hair/photo *before* we cut off all his locks. Oops!

May be able to meet the requirements for this new contest tho!

(A pox on moving… living out of boxes in the new house… at least its mine!)

I choose Cyndi Lauper for her individuality, love of life and her ability to make even an overweight-housewife-mother-of-4 who goes to work in her hubby’s flannel pajamas feel fun and wild. The music is timeless and evokes all kinds of emotions and memories. Her sense of style is at once outrageous and classic and no one else can exude grace and charm while sporting pink hair, striped tights and a tutu. So, I think this dumpy housewife is going to throw off the flannel hand me downs in favor of some tulle and some beads because “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” even when they’re out in the barnyard feeding the milk crazed bottle lambs!

PS I had a beautiful picture of her picked out but I have no idea how to add it here.

Neil Young Ahhh, the versatility. You got what he was feeling. Happy? You got a happy song, Sad? You got sad songs. Plus you’ve gotta respect a man who stands up for what he believes in. Young championed over the years in causes ranging from racism to FarmAid. Not to mention the HUGE influence he had in the grunge scene. And come on, we all loved grunge.

I have this vision of you bottle feeding lambs in a tutu. It kind of made my day. Great entry! If you have a pic somewhere online just send me a link to it!

I thought this was a particularly beautiful picture of her http://www.100xr.com/100_XR/Artists/C/Cyndi_Lauper/Cyndi.Lauper.jpg

If I had some tulle in my fabric stash, I’d so do a pic of muck boots, tutu and lambs, but alas I don’t!

  9. John Bonham is the best Drummer of All Time. Just because he was behind the drums doesn’t mean he’s not a Rock Star.

I totally agree. One of my earliest childhood memories involves Led Zepplin and two of my favorite aunts ROCKING OUT. A love of good rock n’ roll runs in the family. :)

Joe Jackson: he is such an awkward looking musician but his music is powerful and I love to watch him play the piano.

My favorite rock-star is fairly unknown: Oleg Bernov of the Red Elvises: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red_Elvises.

    They’re a Russian-American rockabilly group that’s hysterical.

For some reason I seem to remember having seen a bumper sticker or something somewhere about this band. Amusing. I’ll have to look them up some more. Thanks for bringing them to my attention!

  16. It’s hard to pick in all certainty, because I am a huge fan of both David Bowie and Queen — which is why “Under Pressure” is the greatest song ever performed, of course. I love them both for similar reasons — the spectacle of their performances, the uniqueness of their voices and individuality in the characters they portrayed on stage. And I’m a Costumer, so of course I’ve always found inspiration in the fantastic outfits of Mr. Bowie, especially in the Ziggy Stardust era. And better than a picture of Bowie, or me dressed up like him… a David Bowie doll that I made this winter.
