New Design Friday!

Filed in blog posts

I dropped the ball on Fiber Friday this week, normally I write the post for Fiber Friday a few days before so it runs automatically but because of midterms and preparing to move into a hotel for 2-3 weeks I forgot this week. Oops! So no Fiber Friday this week specifically but every day is kind of Fiber Day at Casa DaniDo so rest assured, knitting/fiber related things are here!

I finished another design this week, which is currently being tested by 3 fabulous ladies (Teri, Laura and Lori) and is a big comfy easy cabled cowl.

This was designed specifically for Knit Las Vegas and is knit in Schulana Pacolana (alpaca/merino/nylon) in the ‘squash’ colorway. It’s officially name is the Brisk Cowl but it was being referred to as the Orange Wrap of Doom.   I wasn’t in love with it while I was knitting it but as soon as it came off the needles and I sewed the buttons on it I absolutely fell in love with it. I think I’m going to knit another one for myself (since this one lives at the shop now) in a less obnoxious color.

As soon as my fabulous testers let me know where/how the pattern is screwed up (as inevitably there is some kind of mistake in there) it will be available at www.buydanido.com and my Ravelry downloads as well as at Knit Las Vegas.

I also just finished writing up another sock pattern as well and will need testers shortly for that pattern too. (Interested? Email me, daniella@danido.com) This new sock design uses a slip stitch pattern to create a slightly woven look and is perfect for variegated yarns. I wanted to come up with a sock that was more interesting to knit than stockinette but could be used with all those beautiful variegated sock yarns I (and other sock knitters) tend to horde. I think this one does a good job without being too complex for beginners to knit. I like simple sock designs because overly complex ones seem a bit silly for something you’re going to put in your shoes. This design may end being a pair of mitts as well though because I think it would work well for that too. Plus the slip stitches make the fabric really dense and warm!

I just snapped a picture of what I have so far to show Christina Marie so I thought I’d share it here too. This one is being knit with Indie Dyer Supersock 100% Superwash Merino.

I’ve written this one top down, but per Christina’s request I’m going to write a toe up version too. This one is easy to do either direction so I’ll have two versions of this sock available soon!

As of Sunday evening I’ll be living out of a hotel room for the next 2 or 3 weeks so blogging may be light during that time since I won’t have access to my complete stash, all my needles, etc. so I’m not sure what I’ll be able to work on. Any suggestions on what I should pack to work on while I’m exiled?
