Knit Tips with Dani Ep. 2
Good morning fiber friends! I have another video for you today and also some freshly spun gorgeous yarn to show off. First we’ll start with the yarn. I love it. I love it so much I can barely stand it. I wasn’t going to put it in my shop but then the realization that I have way more yarn than money hit me and I decided I should at least try to sell it. So if you like you should buy it before I change my mind.
It’s 232 yards of roughly fingering weight (17 WPI) alpaca/bamboo/milk fibers. It’s so soft it’s silly, it’s kind of shiny and sparkly and almost feels like silk because it is spun from Moonwood Farm fiber and their alpacas are seriously the softest animals on the planet. All other alpacas are inferior. (Well, I don’t really know that to be true, but I have a very special love and attachment to Roo’s ‘pacas.) You can buy this yarn here.
Now the video! Today we’re talking about yarn weights and how to identify mystery yarns that have lost their labels or maybe never had one to begin with.
Now, seriously guys, what do you want to see me cover in future videos? I’ll be recording more later today and tomorrow. What would you like to see?

depending on how yarn is wound, sometimes as you’re knitting the yarn gets twisted and kinked between the project and the ball of yarn, so periodically you have to hold the ball of yarn, dangle the project, and let it untwist. It might have something to do with whether plied yarn has an S twist or a Z twist, right? There should be a way to look at the twist and determine ahead of time how to wind a skein, so that it doesn’t twist up when you’re knitting. But how?

I would like to see a video about reading charts. I can read a color chart just fine, but I seem to have a hard time with lace charts… like when it says YO, what do I actually do with the STITCH that that box refers to?? Does that make sense?? Also, I think a lot of knitters avoid charts because they think they are difficult.

I’d like to see a clip of spinning roving and one of spinning 2 ply. I’ve never seen anyone make 2 ply before.
I have a used, supposedly excellent condition, Ashford Traditional arriving in early January and am excited to start the new year spinning. I’ve spun up singles roving on a handspindle before, but am learning what I can about wheel spinning now.
Gorgeous yarn! Happy Holidays!
